AMA (Ask Me Anything): "TEKKEN TAG TOURNAMENT 2 HORI STICK WII U EDITION"

Hi, I'm getting my hands on this arcade stick by Hori for the Wii / Wii U in a few days. This is my first post on SRK, so let me introduce myself before the AMA.

Introduction

I'm Yousif, in my early 20s, always a fighting game fan since a kid and a long-time lurker here on SRK (though I registered recently). I've never played online or in a tournament and I've never before owned an arcade stick. I have played at actual arcades and I'm very good at technical skills, but I've kept preferring a gamepad to an arcade stick. I grew up with Guilty Gear on PS1 and love Arc Sys games, my other favorites include KoF and Smash Bros.

Preface

Now that you know who I am, I searched the forums for this arcade stick in question and found very little talk about it. I couldn't find any experiences on it, which is why I started this thread. I have a Wii U and I'm hoping to use an arcade stick with Smash Bros. Don't confuse this stick with the earlier Hori "Fighting Stick Wii" that is white in color. Compared to that, this has a better design, a switch for the control of the joystick (D-pad / L-stick / R-stick), and it has buttons based on Kuro. I couldn't find information on the joystick itself, though it's said that it's a Hayabusa or a variation of it. Hori's Japanese website has a nice presentation of the stick and its functions: http://www.hori.jp/products/wiiu/tekken_stick/.

Please note: the Tatsunoko vs. Capcom arcade stick by Mad Catz is the only other stick for the Wii / Wii U in addition to this Hori stick that has a switch for the control of the joystick. This makes these two sticks compatible with Smash Bros., which many others aren't such as the original Hori Fighting Stick Wii or the Exar NEOGEO STICK 2 for Wii. Even though this Hori stick is officially licensed by Nintendo as a Wii U arcade stick, it still connects to the Wiimote like a Classic Controller and is therefore compatible with both the Wii and the Wii U.

Games I can try, AMA

I'm an average player, but I can perform combos fast. Mind you, I still have to adjust to an arcade stick as I've played with a gamepad before. That said, here are the games I currently own for the Wii / Wii U that I can try (in order of preference):

1. Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus (Wii)
2. Tatsunoko vs. Capcom (Wii)
3. KoF Collection: The Orochi Saga (Wii)
4. Samurai Shodown Anthology (Wii)
5. Tekken Tag Tournament 2 (Wii U)
6. Injustice: Gods Among Us (Wii U)

As for why the Hori stick specifically, I ordered it because I liked its design over the other ones that are white. I have a black Wii U and always thought white electronics look bad, that's all. I'm not afraid to open it up and see what's inside, I may eventually swap out parts if I feel the need to. Also, it seems it's a bit rare as there's literally just 1 unboxing video of it on YouTube and that's by Play-Asia, which also is the only online retailer I know of that sells this stick for about $150: http://www.play-asia.com/tekken-tag-tournament-2-hori-stick-wii-u-edition-paOS-13-49-en-70-5jib.html.

This stick was supposed to launch in Europe as the Hori "Fighting Stick NW" without the Tekken branding, but it was cancelled before launch. You can still find placeholders on websites like Amazon and many online retailers, but if you ask them about it, they never received stock. It's also not on the Hori UK website. Even on eBay you'll be hard pressed to find this stick on sale, I just made a search and found only 2 listings, both asking more than Play-Asia does for a new one... So yeah, I like rare stuff and I needed an arcade stick for my Wii U, there was no better match.

I will post pics as soon as it's arrived. Right now it's in the customs waiting for clearance, I'll have it in my hands next week hopefully by Tuesday. Until then, I'd love to know your questions on it. Do you want me to open it up and take a closer look at the buttons or the joystick? Do you want me to try a specific move or combo in a particular game. Do you want to know the overall feeling of the arcade stick and how it compares to others? I have a friend who works at GameStop, it won't be a problem to get a reference, I can compare this to other sticks easily, just let me know which ones.

Thanks for the opportunity and sorry for the long post. Looking forward to hearing more from you! Ask away!
~ Yousif
