Controlers not working on windows 8.1

Well I didnt want to update to windows 8.1 but after months of saying no, apparently microsoft said fuck you, and updated me anyway..

So now I cant get any controller to recognize on my computer. Cant set buttons, cant calibrate or anything. Supposedly im not the only person that has had this issue, and ive read on other forums that you can disable the HID and then plug in the controller again and it should work. Well this has not worked for me at all lol.

So anyway does anyone know a solution for this? If you can help thanks
