Madcatz Tournament Edition PS3 - PC - USB Hub?

Hi,

I have the dreaded first edition madcatz stick which doesn't work with Pc because of the UHCI problem,

Having checked the other posts on this issue and I am slightly confused,

if I buy an external USB hub that has the VIA chipset will that work?

I can't use an internal card as I'm using a laptop and I heard that people have had success using usb extension cables in Usb3 ports so I was thinking this might be a possibility?

Also if anyone knows a make model of a usb extension cable that works in a USB3 port that would be great,
