any Manufacturer of HORI or Madcatz can confirm ?

So are we in for another generation of having to buy sticks for both consoles?

Title.

I'm just wondering if sticks will, finally, be universal or not. I don't see why they would make them universal, but there's a little glimmer of hope.

Mad Catz TE - some stickmovements not recognized

$

Today I was practicing some combos in the lab when suddenly (without any violence done to my stick) the right direction (as well as up-right and down-right) of my stick stopped working.
I restarted the game and then it would sometimes(!) recognize the movement or for like a second when I hold it to the right. After some 360's it kinda stabilized but still for example a dash would come out when I just pressed right or I stopped walking even if I still held to the right.

We're talking about the Street Fighter Tournament Edition stick, used for the PC version of Street Fighter IV.

I opened the stick and didn't see any visual damage, the cables are fine and the switches in the joystick look healthy.

What parts should I replace to make this thing work again? :D

JLF feels loose at neutral.

I have a silent JLF with a 1.5mm oversized actuator, and 6lb spring from www.paradisearcadeshop.com when I let it go back to neutral it doesn't center but it will sit a little towards the direction it was just at, any tips on how I could fix this?

ARC EYE 3: LEDs made easy!

Yes, I did say I wasn't going to make LEDs anymore, but that doesn't mean I can't work with one of the premier fightstick modders on the scene to bring you:

Quick Facts:
 • Yes, Toodles is my partner on this project!
 • New LED design to make it even easier to install
 • New LED controller to go with the LEDs (handles 8 buttons only)
 • Designed for 30mm SANWA (snap in semitsus and rollies are also compatible)
 • Arceye2 is not obsolete. It remains vaild for semitsu screw ins and can work with the new LED controller with slight modification to the controller
 • Yes, the new design is scalable to other button sizes / types in the future (but no plans currently)
 • Install / demo videos will be made shortly after EVO
 • Availability is tentative for late July
FAQ:

Q: What kind of joystick will this work on?
A: Any common ground controller including any of Toodles' products, PS360+, Hori, Madcatz, Paewang, DualStrike. Some versions of Qanba/Eightarc sticks are not compatible because they're not common ground.

Q: So how do i tell if my stick common ground ?
A: Please search the forums / google

Q: Is this plug and play?
A: If you have a 360 TE/TE-S Madcatz, you only need to solder one wire for power. Everything else is plug and play. If you have any other type of common ground controller, you will need to handle connection from Remora to the controller board. I will provide diagrams and pics in post #3 and offer advice where I can, but NO SUPPORT WILL BE PROVIDED for these types of setups. If you read through this post and still have no idea what to do, i recommend hiring someone to do the mod for you (it'll probably be a bit too advanced for a novice).

If you have a PS3 Madcatz stick, the header pinout is different than the 360 TE (for connecting remora to the controller). With a screwdriver you should be able to re-position the pins inside the header. Toodles is looking into an alternative solution in the meantime.

Q: Will you mod my stick for me?
A: Neither of us have the time I'm afraid, but you can hire someone like Gummo or JDM714

Q: Where do I find JST cables?
A: This should work

Hori RAP V3-SA 'Kai' stick looseness question?

Hi,

the stick has finally arrived :D and I have a question to all you old timers. This is my first stick so obviously I don't know what to expect and so I have a question. The vanilla joystick that is here (Sanwa JLF-TP-8YT-SK) is slightly loose in its neutral state. It's a very minimal looseness but still I wanted to know if it's normal? The second thing is not strictly technical. I wanted a little direction, maybe guides on how to start playing with arcade sticks :)

Edit.
Sorry for doubling the subject from http://forums.shoryuken.com/discussion/179586/jlf-feels-loose-at-neutral

360 VLX RJ-45 MCC dual mod success!

$

Well I'm wondering if anybody else has attempted to dual mod RJ-45 a 360 HRAP VLX

I ran into a problem that seems to be strange. I accomplished the mod and the 360 PCB side works fine on PC and does not work on the xbox 360. The MC Chtulhu works on PS3 fine so far, but have not gone through the system wringer for testing.

If you have done this mod on a VLX and have no problems please chime in.

Here are some photos of how I did this mod, I tried to not void the warranty.

Using an Imp+MCC+VLX 360 pcb and RJ-45ing it.

bd848e7e.jpg

I made a custom harness out of two speaker wire headers to tap the USB lines from the PCB for Voltage, D+, D-, Ground
e976de79.jpg

Since I refuse to mod the case in any way I am using a Ethernet Coupler instead of a Neutrik.
2cf280a1.jpg

I figured out what end of each button wire is the signal and made an intermediary connection to avoid having to open the black box. Screwed them into the MCC screw terminals.
28e50af0.jpg

Ascii Optical. Made some PCB adaptor to plug into the default harness and have lead wires to bridge to the MCC screw terminals.
b3206785.jpg

It seems to be working fine in Windows 7.... But nothing on xbox 360. Cthulhu worked on PS3.
vlxDevices.jpg

I'm out of ideas on what to trouble shoot. If anybody else does this mod with the VLX PCB, could you please post the results in here? I'm probably going to get a 360 fight pad pcb for this to work.

I am going to experiment with dropping the imp for an internal dpdt switch.

Common ground controller question (perhaps slightly off topic)

Hi All!

I have a wiring question. Let's say (hypothetically) that I like to play KOF with a racing wheel, but feel that the face buttons don't have enough oomph for my punches and kicks and would prefer to use a heavy duty gear shifter for my uber chohissatsushinobibachi action. With me so far? ;)

Well anyway, I'm using this tutorial here:
http://www.briandorey.com/post/External-Button-Connections.aspx

It states that it's common ground, but it wants you to use 3 ground points anyway, and I'm not sure why I have to. FYI I'm only planning on wiring up the face buttons, not the shifter paddles. I just want to make it as simple as possible so I don't screw it up. If anyone's curious, this is the "stick" I will be using:

Please forgive the unusual nature of my request. I just knew you guys were the experts. Just so you guys don't think I'm some idiot crackpot off the street, I offer you one of my other projects to peruse, so you may know that I am only partially idiotic:

Thank you so much for any assistance, or at very least, allowing me escape this thread without a ban. ;)

FAQ
Spoiler:
1. What is the Hit Box?

The Hit Box all-button controller, AKA the "Stickless Stick," is a game controller specifically designed for fighting games. We replaced the joystick with directional buttons that are controlled by your fingers.

2. Why buttons?

By using 4 directional buttons controlled by 4 fingers, you gain:

- Increased input speed
- Consistent inputs yield fewer mistakes
- Exclusive control over your movement
- No travel time inputting directions
- Button techniques apply to movement and special inputs (plinking, piano, double tap, slide)
- Game-specific features such as SSFIV input shortcuts (such as walking dragon punches)
- No unintentional inputs such as accidental jumps
- No arm/wrist motion
- Stays put in your lap

3. Are those smaller buttons than normal?

Yes. We use 24mm Sanwa pushbuttons with exception to the 'Up' button, which is 30mm. They are highly sensitive buttons and work perfectly. 24 mm buttons are able to be brought closer together and fit the natural curve of the human hand. When the button spread is closer together, players find all buttons directly at their finger tips with no hand-hovering.

4. Can I still execute throws and focus attacks on this smaller layout?

Yes.

5. What about plinking and double tapping my combo links?

Of course.

6. Why have a shared jump button for your thumbs?

It is larger than the other buttons so both thumbs can access "Up" depending on player preference. By utilizing this, you can perform advanced "joystick" motions easily. Tri-jumps and Tiger Knee inputs are much faster and more accurate. It also makes many Just-Frame inputs incredibly easy.

8. Who is this for? Do I need keyboard experience?

While it appears to share the most common ground with a keyboard, Hit Box is a balance between Joystick, Pad, and Keyboard together. You dont need background in any controller to appreciate the Hit Box: Anyone can use it!

9. Can I still do everything I can do on my joystick?

Everything and more.

10. What about Hadokens and Dragon Punches and SPDs?

Yes. Quickly and accurately.

11. What about "______'s ________ combo"?

Yes.

12. Is there a learning curve?

The learning curve is creating fast, new memory in your fingers. It doesn't take long. This also gets rid of old bad habits too!

13. Are these for advanced players only?

No! The benefits of these boxes can be appreciated by everyone from the beginning player to the most advanced tournament player. The whole purpose of the Hit Box is to aide your fundamentals and build your foundation so that you can focus on what actually matters in a match: your opponent.

14. What happens when you hold the Left and Right buttons together?

Left + Right = Neutral. Your character will stand still. No charging or blocking occurs.

15. Can I hold Left and Right to block cross ups?

No. Left + Right = Neutral; you will get hit in the face.

18. Can I walk forward and charge a sonic boom?

No.

19. Can I hold Back and perform shoryuken motions?

No. Left + Right = Neutral.

20. Is "Left + Right = Neutral" useless?

No! Left + Right is the basis for many advanced techniques that will make your life easier! You get access to 3-frame dashes, 1-button FADCs, rapid dragon punches, new option selects, safe and easy Korean backdash cancelling, and much more! Left + Right will help your execution significantly. Check out all of the tech in our video section!

When will Windows XP become defunct?

$

The other day, I bought Battlefield 3 on Origin for $5.00 only to discover that the game won't play on Windows XP at all because it has no DX9; only DX10 and 11. I wouldn't have even thought to check the minimum OS requirements because I've played numerous games released in the last 1 or 2 years that worked on XP. There are only two other games I know of that don't support it: Halo 2 and XCOM: Enemy Unknown. But from what I understand, both of them have workarounds to make them run on XP.

The point is: how long will it be until it becomes ordinary for newly released games to not run on XP? Upgrading to Windows 7 or 8 would mean proceeding with an overdue new computer build because my current one is 6 years old. But I've been out of work for 5 years and don't feel like spending a lot. How much longer can I beat the dying horse?

PS360+ Firmware to solve PS4 and XBONE incompatibility?

$

I just wanted to find out what everyone thinks about the likelihood of the PS360+ having a simple firmware or software update to solve the incompatibility it MAY have with the PS4 and XBONE.

I don't know if it'll be easy (as I don't know what sort of security structure/hardware limitation the new consoles may have), but I think that it is a distinct possibility. Seeing as firmware can ultimately emulate any security measures that have been taken, it should be (theoretically) as simple as coding it to work.

So, Tech Talk, what do you think? Let's Talk Tech...

Darkmatter Xbox Laptop & DIY Kit

Hi guys. Newbie forum user techjango here. We're a start-up based in Austin, Texas focusing on OSHW & DIY products and services. We recently launched a kickstarter campaign to fund our Darkmatter project and thought that the users at this forum might be interested.

Darkmatter is an Xbox 360 (*) Laptop Kit that you can use to convert your Xbox 360 into a portable gaming system replete with HD widescreen display, capacitive touch controls, USB ports and more. The project initially started simply as an effort to make a portable Xbox 360 system for ourselves, inspired by famed electronics hacker Ben Heck - he's made one-off mods in the past, and continues to do special orders at around $5000. We were pretty happy once we completed our own personal little mod, it was a fun learning experience (there were some frustrating points in the path, but all in all it was a good experience). Racking up the costs, they turned out to be much less than $5000, and we thought, “Why not make more of these, for other people?”. It's much cheaper to make, you learn a lot about soldering and electronics and such through the process, it allows you to play games in a small private setting and it's great for LAN parties. And so we named our little boy 'Darkmatter' and decided to crowd-fund it with kickstarter. Here it is:
photo-main.jpg

We're still short of our funding goal, and would love to bring this product into the gaming and DIY/hacker community's hands. If you find this project interesting, please do help fund this on our kickstarter: www.kickstarter.com/projects/1360501894/darkmatter-xbox-laptop-and-diy-kit. We have reward levels all the way from $10 pledges (name-listing on website and a vote on color options) to $999 (fully assembled and tested Darkmatter Xbox Laptop, a how-to eBook and a skill badge)

We demo'ed Darkmatter recently at the Bay Area Maker Faire and got a very positive response. Ben Heck himself stopped by!
image-262030-full.jpg

We do hope our cause (and Ben Heck's approval!) will convince you to support us. We've already been covered in prominent tech websites such as mashable and engadget but are still short of our funding goal. Help us bring this to you! Share around and pledge! We'll be releasing all our design files once the kickstarter is funded, so you can go make your very own mod!

We'd love to hear your questions, comments and feedback. Feel free to leave them right here on this thread, or check out our kickstarter for common queries and updates on the project. Thanks for reading!

----
* more than just the Xbox 360. In light of the upcoming Xbox One release, we've announced support for it as well. It's essentially an Open Laptop platform that we're building, after all. Regardless, the Darkmatter would be a cool way to salvage your old '360 once the One comes out!

Fanta stick PX questions(need help)

My friend want to me to help him customize his Fanta stick PX KOF XIII ed . I know its a Koren fightstick and Koren parts . He want to me to change the buttons and the art work. From what little info I know about the stick is the stock buttons there are 28mm if I'm not mistaken , the Sanwa are 30mm, so you have to shave/drill/ect. to make the holes bigger and then daisy chain the buttons and soldering them to the pcb. What is the best method to use to make the holes bigger? where can I find the template? where can I find the schematic to know how the button is laid out on the pcb? also where can I find some where that has stuff that per-daisied chain?

P.s is it also possible to put lights in that fight stick ? if so which are the best light to use ?

Hori Dead Alive 5 Arcade Stick Template

Have been looking everywhere for a template for my Xbox 360 Hori Dead Alive 5 Arcade Stick so I can create some new art for it but have ended the search with no luck. Have not been able to find a website that creates them either. Anyone that could provide a template or would be interested in being contracted to do an artwork sheet for me for my stick let me know. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks much in advance!
