SEIMITSU LS 56 01 vs. SANWA JLF-TP-8YT-SK JOYSTICK

$

Ok, so I have a Madcatz TE Type S stick for 360/PC (click the link for exact model on Amazon where I bought it) and I'm not that happy with the Sanwa JLF joystick that comes with it. The throw on it is simply too far for my comfort zone and I read that the Seimitsu LS 56 has a much shorter throw. However, there isn't a lot of info that I could find which I trust so I figured I'd make a thread asking people who have experience their thoughts on the feel of those two sticks. Also, if you have an opinion on Happ or other Seimitsu models that is welcome as well.

Also, does anybody have a direct link to how to change the art on a Type S stick like mine? I freaking hate the hardened cardboard'ish top it has and the left corner actually likes to cut into my skin while I'm playing (poor design). So if anybody is feeling helpful I'd be greatly appreciate it :)

Brook Sniper: Giving the FGC (& FPSC) Options

Brook-Sniper-FPS-Controller-Converter-Adapter-Mouse-and-Keyboard-Precision-Converter-for-PS4-PS3-Xbox-One.jpg

Brook released the sniper and one of the ancillary features is the usb port on the back. It basically acts as a Brook plug and play auto detect Universal Fighting Board. I've tried every unboxed stick & pad I own from various consoles at it and so far it works on the PS4 and is hot swappable. Also there is a 3.5mm input for audio\voice on PS4, an easier way to use your 3.5mm headsets with sticks and pads lacking this option and for folks not using USB\BT headsets.
image026.jpg

•End goal is to provide a comprehensive list of everything you need to know about this converter and with it's unique properties I believed it was owed its own thread. As I have more time (If you own the Brook Sniper as well feel free to post your own discoveries or tests and I'll update this OP) with the sniper I plan to test & upload video(s) on the following;

Input Lag
  • Will use the 60fps recorded video method on USFIV & then SFV per pad/stick.
  • Will test input lag with eTokki PSXto360 & Brook PS2toPS4 adapter.
  • Will compare input lag with a native PS4 stick plugged in directly to the PS4 and the same PS4 stick plugged into the Brook Sniper as a pass through.

Compatibility With Other Consoles
  • 360, XB1, PS3, PC & MAC

Disassembly & The Guts of This Device
  • Mini UFB inside?
  • Modular?
  • Can it be scaled down and used specifically for the converter and 3.5mm headset properties?

Valuable Use
  • I can see the Sniper being used at your local eSport Centers or even zealous TOs. Mount two of these adapters near/to each PS4/Console and advertise the ability for customers/contestants to bring the Stick/Pad of their choice from any console. Or Keyboard & Mouse for the FPS crowd or that one player you know that prefers playing SF on their keyboard.
  • Players with multiple adapters can consolidate into this one adapter albeit a larger form factor, unless we find we can scale down the adapter's pcbs.
  • Brook future support for Tournament Mode, I've tested some Macros for Keyboard\Mouse on a FPS but haven't tried creating a Macro for SFV.
  • The micro USB has a USB that has another USB piggy backed onto it. Only 1 of the USB's need to be plugged into the console, the other USB is only needed if your KB&M draw enough current to require it or the Gamepad\Arcade Stick port draws enough current to require it. Only plugging in the primary USB frees up the only other USB port available on the original PS4s. A powered USB hub can be used here as needed as well.
  • I can use my mechanical keyboard as a hit box! Kind of, worked fine for shotos but I could not register a 360 motion in SFV? Will try USFIV and other fighters\consoles.
  • Pad\Stick and KB&M all remain under 1 PSN profile
  • Hotswapping a Pad\Stick when a KB&M is plugged in doesn't trigger a new PSN profile login (saves a few seconds of next user to just sit down and play instead of picking a PSN profile)
  • Hotswapping a Pad Stick without KB&M plugged in untested
  • 3.5mm Audio plugin support for PS4, untested for other consoles but brooks advertises it only works for PS4

    I'very started a video series for Brook for providing this review unit from a FPS perspective;
The playlist will stay the same but will automatically have more videos on the playlist as the videos reach their scheduled date and time for public viewing.

**I Will update the first post with the new info as it's created and post the new edits in the reply posts.
**If you own a Brook Sniper or have access to one anything you test or discover update the rest of us and I'll add it to this OP.

Windy Gamings Project: Fierce Fightstick.

Some of you guys have bought my supergun. I built it for the general arcade enthusiast. What ended up happening was it ended up more in the hands of fighting game players. The pinout I used wasn't cross compatible with some of the stuff you guys use (and I am working on something for that as well). The next step for me was custom controls. I wanted everything to be high end on this thing.

Well, this is the next part of our line. Project Fierce is a fightsick that has both DB15 ports (for my supergun and neo geo) as well as neutrik usb connector running into a brook universal. A small custom pcb inside runs the db15 and controls the tournament lockout switch.

zrTH03t.jpg

It has a 15 3/4" (400mm) custom steel enclosure that has been powder coated matte black. The enclosure is fabricated and painted local, right here in Chicago. 10" top to bottom. Designed with the lap player in mind, but has rubber feet so it wont slide everywhere if you are playing on a table.

ETG0LLX.jpg

The back panel has the Neutrik USB connector, the Tournament lockout switch, and the DB15 connector.

All those buttons on top have a purpose too:

b9iiwVh.jpg

I'm finding a lot of big sticks have those extra buttons tucked away on the back/sides of their enclosures and are hard to reach or are hard to use effectively when you want them. This puts everything within a hands reach of the player. There is ample room for your wrists to rest as well during play allowing for comfortable and varying grips and hand positions.

The stick makes its live playable debut at Midwest Gaming Classic this weekend. I'll be doing a live stream with a local fgc and this thing as well next week. After that they will be made available. It adheres to EVO rules and is tournament legal.

What do you guys think?

So what happened to Gamerfinger?

Question about the Xbox One Killer Instinct Madcatz TE2 and the Steam Controller Configuration

$

Hi guys,

I own the Xbox One Killer Instinct Madcatz TE 2 and currently play KI with an 8 button set up as the game itself recognizes the device. Anytime I want to play Street Fighter 5 on STEAM I have to go ahead and reinstall these older drivers and rewire the stick to the 6 button set up in order to enjoy it. I know Steam released the controller update a few months back and I am wondering if the API of the Steam Controller Configuration recognizes this version of the TE2 now with the most recent drivers? I would really like to not have to mess around with my stick anymore.

I dont really want to buy a brooks just for this so I am seeing if there is a solution out there.

(I know I can just play with six buttons)

Any help or tips would be appreciated..

Thanks,

Brook's PS4+ Audio Fighting Board Help

Just got my Brook's PS4+ Audio Fighting Board from arcade shock and was little surprised to find it uses micro usb-b rather than the usual usb-b connection type that is much sturdier. I have a feeling I will be breaking the heads on these a lot, but I digress. My question is does the type of micro usb-b to usb a cable matter? I had a micro usb-b laying around that I used to charge an old phone and used that to plug it in to test. The blue led lights up, but there is no connectivity. At this point I'm not sure if it's the cable I'm using or the PCB itself is faulty. Any advice would be appreciated.

EDIT: My issue has been resolved and Brooks has sent out a new board at no charge to me. Just wanted to say thank you to the Brook's team. Everyone was super helpful and went way above and beyond to help me. Plus the have staff, like @GOGO.Zippy on SRK tech forums almost everyday answer questions, so I can't recommend their company highly enough.

So I just received my TE2+ yesterday....

Plugged it into my ps4 while already being in training mode and my character just starts jumping for no reason. Plugged it out and back in same problem. Thought maybe the joystick was acting up so I disconnected it from the stick. Still jumping. It jumps in LS and DP mode but stops in RS. I made a video to show it. Has anyone else had a problem similar to this? Hope there is a way to fix this bullshit. I don't wanna have to wait all over again for a new one smh.

Which do you think is the best D-pad for fighting games? (diagonals, hadoukens, shoryukens etc)

Good morning to everyone,
I'm a spanish guy (sorry for my poor english hehe)
I have been thinking for a long time which D-pad is the best?
I have tried a lot of different dpads like the 8bitdo SFC30 controller, the DS3, DS4,..............
And surprisingly the one that convinces me the most is the Saitek Cyborg Rumble Pad for PC/Raspberry Pi 3/Android devices
I usually use it with my Android phone.
Which do you think is the best D-pad for fighting games?
Thanks!!

Anyone ever opened up a Hori Ehrgeiz Stick?

I've got one of these little beauties coming in the mail from overseas right now and I'd like to upgrade it with a Sanwa JLF joystick and some Seimitsu PS-14-KN buttons when it arrives, but I've had absolutely zero luck finding any pictures of what the stick looks like on the inside so I'm not sure what all supplies I'll need to do the upgrade. I have done the same JLF + Seimitsu buttons upgrade to a Hori T5 stick before, so I'm definitely prepared to drill out the restrictor plate and desolder the original buttons from the PCB then wire it up if that's what will be necessary, I'm just hoping that someone might be able to post a picture or two of the inside of one of these Ehrgeiz Sticks so I'll know whether it can be upgraded the same way as a Hori T5 or if a different procedure will be required.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! :)

PS2 stick modding and converter Q's

$

So I mentioned in a previous discussion about me picking up about mayflash universal fightstick as I wanted it for the use of playing all my ps2 fighters.

And since I have a dreamcast and sega saturn I also purchased these converters for my ps2 fightstick:

PS2 >Dreamcast converter
(Total control plus)

PS2>Saturn converter
(Classic joypad converter by goldenshop/Tototek)

When I use the DC converter there's a switch which allows all four main buttons and also R1 & R2 to be user so it looks like the classic 6 button setup which I'm happy about.
However on the saturn it allows 8 button setup but scrambles the buttons and when i was playing Xmen:CotA the button layout was terrible mainly due to the saturn having 6 buttons and then a L&R too. I've went into the button configuration but no luck.

Would I be better off buying a 6 button ps2 stick and are there any good ones. Or would I be be better of buying a pcb which had a ps2 wire so i can connect my own button and joystick to it.

The mayflash universal stick I'm using has all the buttons soldered on, and would be much easier if I could just fit them into slots on the pcb. Are there any ways around this?

I checked out the namco ps1/ps2 stick and it has square,X,O, triangle, R1, R2.

And the soul calibur 2 stick has the same main for buttons but has R1 and L1 instead?

So does anyone have any experience with the saturn converters, i mean I've looked at posts and it does seem that this converter has odd button mapping.

I'm unsure what would be best for my converters? I don't really need an 8 button stick for old fighters and a 6 button would do if that would be the best option. Or even remove 2 buttons from an 8 button stick to make it 6 buttons.

Thanks
Anth

SNES Street Fighter II Turbo RAM map

Hey, first time poster here.

I'm working on a project that might interest some people here. We're developing a neural network that will learn how to play SFII Turbo on the SNES (we're using snes9x), right now we're looking for someone that has found what RAM addresses correspond to what in-game variables (x position, health, moves, etc.), but we've only found this for the arcade version.

I figured someone here might have this information, even a partially built RAM map would be awesome. Thanks.

*UPDATED* BROOK FIGHTING BOARD w/ SOUND + BREAKOUT BOARD (PS3, PS4, PC XINPUT)

$

Hey everyone,

Brook sent out a new prototype PCB for me to test out. It's similar in function to the original small PS3/PS4 Fighting Board with the addition of sound and a new form factor. It's a great solution for those looking for plug & play PS4 & PC functionality without all the extra console compatibility (and extra cost) of the Universal Fighting Board.

6K1xUQGl.jpg

Features:
•Plug & Play PS3/PS4/PC (XINPUT)
•3.5mm jack for headphone and mic support (supports game audio and mic input)
•Micro USB Jack
•Additional access to Turbo, LEDs, SOCD, Touch Pad, Analogs, & 20pin connector for inputs.
•Screw Terminals for easy wire connections
•Same size as UFB
•Same low latency performance as previous Brook PCBs

Pinout:
J1 : USB Port to PS3/PS4/PC[X-input]
J2 : Player LED
J3 : Screw terminal to connect with inputting buttons
J4 : external port to connect with inputting buttons
J5 : Left and Right Analog Stick
J6 : Touch panel
J7 : Turbo function (Key and LED)
J11 : 3.5mm Phone Jack
J12 : Select Stick to map LS/DP/RS
J14 : Enable/Disable Left and Right Analog Stick
J15 : Enable/Disable SOCD function

@gogo.zippy has informed me that they are already in talks with distribution channels. Release date & pricing will be announced shortly.

Here's a first look of the PCB and a install into a PS3 SF x Tekken Madcatz VS Stick:

The Optical Joystick Discussion

$
0
0
I thought it would be pretty cool to start a thread dedicated to the discussion of optical joysticks. These include:

- The Happ/WICO Perfect 360 joystick
- The Sanwa JLHS-8Y FLASH 1 joystick
- The ASCII Answer (Optical) joystick

as well as recent reproductions:

- Toodles' Spark
- Rollie Electronics and Happ Controls' reproduction FLASH 1

What is an optical joystick and why should I care?

What's so great about optics? Well, the beauty of optical joysticks is that unlike their microswitch counterparts, there's not a single component on the PCB that moves. That means as long as you're not running these things out-of-spec, they'll last a really long time. The optical joysticks invented thus far have required +5V power to power their sensors and LEDs. All 5 sticks listed above have however been successfully installed onto PlayStation 1 and 2 era sticks without much of a hitch. This would normally be an issue since PS1 and PS2 PCBs output at only +3.3V.

All of the original joysticks been out of production for a long time. The Sanwa HS-ASSY FLASH 1 PCB was discontinued in 2006; the old WICO Perfect 360s have been out of production for maybe a decade (someone fact check me on this) and the ASCII optical joysticks were just hard to find to begin with. So, needless to say, if you want an original, you're going to have to prepare a chunk of cash to get it.

HOWEVER, do not be mistaken that just because they're reproductions that Toodles' Spark or Rolllie's FLASH 1 are any worse. They are reproductions, but they are based on the same design principles and standards that original optical joystick PCBs work on. They will work the exact same.

Where can I buy an optical joystick?

As stated, if you're looking to get an original optical joystick, be prepared to get some cash on hand because depending on which joystick you want, you're going to have to spend a LOT of cash. Here are some figures regarding the average going rate I've seen for these joysticks here on SRK's Trading Outlet:

WICO Perfect 360: $100.00 +/- $20.00
Sanwa JLHS-8Y FLASH 1: $200.00 (!) +/- $20.00
ASCII Answer (Optical): $120.00 +/- $20.00

And here's the price for the reproduction optical PCBs:

Toodles' Spark: $55.00 + shipping
Rollie's FLASH 1: To be determined

Except for the newer production Happ Perfect 360s, which you can get commonly from LizardLick for $39.95 plus shipping and handling, every other optical joystick ever made is out of production. Go figure why they're so sought after; the last time people were able to get an optical joystick for reasonable prices was around in 2006! :wasted:

If you are a fan of American parts you can still get a Happ Perfect 360 joystick from places like LizardLick. Just be aware that the newer Happ Perfect 360 joysticks are manufactured by Happ in their factories in China and the first batches of P360s have had issues with various aspects of the build; pivot grinding issues, diagonals not registering, and other issues have been noticed in the newer P360s (none of these reported issues have anything to do with the optics. If there were any optics issues, it's because you're not powering your joystick properly).

However, that was a few years ago when Happ first made the switch to their China factories. Today, their P360s are mostly issue free, though WICO P360 owners will tell you the new P360s "Just don't feel the same." You can get a newer Happ P360 for around $40.00 USD from LizardLick, but for a WICO P360, you're going to need to do a bit of hunting for them and shell out some more cash. I've seen WICO P360s go for around $120.00 here on SRK. The easiest way to tell if it was made by WICO or Happ is to look at the bottom of the joystick. If it was made by WICO, it will have "WICO" written on the bottom. If Happ, it will say "HAPP P360." There have been some cases where some people got a P360 without any writing on the bottom at all, and it's mostly been assumed that these are WICO P360s, but just be sure to ask.

If you are fan of Japanese parts and are looking to use an optical joystick, looking for an ASCII Answer (Optical) is probably your best bet. They're incredibly good in terms of build quality and you can find them for significantly cheaper than a Sanwa FLASH 1. Of course, you typically won't find them sold as just the joystick. The ASCII Answer is pretty elusive only because when you look for any possible ASCII joystick that might have them, people are worried about whether the stick they're buying actually has an optical joystick since ASCII did manufacture sticks with microswitch joysticks. This detailed post by jdm714 however helps us out a lot. It covers the 6 ASCII sticks ever produced that used an optical joystick along with giving us the Japanese katakana for the joystick so that if you're feeling ambitious, you can hunt for them on Japanese auction sites.
For PlayStation

Wiring up the ASCII Answer is a bit odd since it does not use a standard connector for its directions, voltage line, or ground. All we get with it is the wires that were attached to the original ASCII PCB. But courtesy of our encyclopedic resource, jdm714, we have a diagram for those who want to wire one up into another stick.

The colors correspond to each of the wires on the ASCII Answer PCB. Depending on whether you are using a Dreamcast or PlayStation 1 era ASCII Answer, your wire coloring may vary. This post by jdm714 tells of all the known color schemes so far:
Dreamcast has colors going Green, Brown, Gray, Yellow.
PlayStation has the colors going Green, Orange, Blue, Yellow.
The colors are different, but they are the same as diagrammed.

Alternatively, you can purchase a reproduction optical PCB to install into your Sanwa JLF in your stick of choice. The first contender is made by our resident PCB wizard, Toodles.

You might some PlayStation 1 era ASCII Answers had a purple wire (image courtesy of fujifilm, linked to by jdm714) instead of blue! But they wire up just the same. Bear in mind the diagram does not mean the ASCII Answer can exclusively be installed in a Mad Catz Arcade FightStick or with a Mad Catz PCB. It's just a reference diagram. It can be easily installed in any stick you want.

What about those reproductions? Resident PCB wizard Toodles has himself designed and manufactured an optical PCB designed for use in a Sanwa JLF joystick called the Spark. You can order one of these from his site. These are very reliable PCBs and are a very cost-effective solution if you want to try out an optical joystick for yourself.

Recently as well, Rollie Electronics in partnership with Happ Controls has begun reproducing the original FLASH 1 optical PCB designed for the Sanwa JLF joystick. I won't go into details, but you can find more information in their thread here:

Anyways, enough background information. I'd like to propose the following discussion question:

What should we dub the ASCII optical joystick?

The term "ASCII Optical" is certainly easy to remember and is definitely precise enough for people to understand what you're talking about, but (it might be just me) I feel that it's very boring sounding. Happ/Wico had their "Perfect 360" bit going, a name signifying the perfection in movement that their optical joystick gave to the player. Sanwa's FLASH 1 had a reference to light in the name, and is almost synonymous with the phrase "High-Speed Response."

So what about ASCII? I personally think that we should dub it the "ASCII Answer" for two reasons:

1) It was, after all, ASCII's own "answer" to Sanwa's optical joystick.
2) For the deep, psychological part of the name, the term "answer" refers to how the ASCII optical joystick shall always be there to "answer" to whatever request you may make of it.

I dunno though; I thought my own attempt was pretty lame so let's get talking about the ASCII's new name or anything else optical.

Have at it gentlemen!

Venom arcade stick PS4/PS3

Hi guys!
do you have heard anything about the Venom PS4 arcade stick? I take a look at the description and photos(since it´s the only thing we got) and it looks like the mayflash V2, the case looks the same used on the mayflash v2.
Since the descrition says it has premium quality parts (I dont know what they call premium quality parts) I assume it comes with sanwa or seimitsu parts. The color of the buttons and balltop looks navy, so maybe it has the PS-15 navy(I dont believe but it´s the only quality buttons I know with that color). The price is 75€($86), a nice chance to get a PS4 stick. It looks nice btw, here is some photos:

I was looking on the net and I found other PS4 stick with the same name but different in all aspects, looks a kind of cheap one, here is it:

Where Are Some Good Places to Find People Who Want to Develop Games?

I've been struggling to develop my own game for a while. I've been working on my own for this goal for years, but nothing is sinking in. I can't get down programming and I find scripting languages boring as all hell. I might need some help so I'm looking for others to work with, but I want to work with people in person. I tried working with someone online before and it didn't go well. The past week I've been talking to students at the local HBCU and have posted flyers around campus, but since students are concentrating on their finals right now and summer break will be here I need to find some people who can work with me now and during the summer. What are some places where I can find gamers other than colleges?

Madcatz TE2+ Fightstick PS3/PS4 Switch Problem

So, I just bought a madcatz TE2+ Fightstick and it wont work on PS4. The problem is that ps4 doesnt recognize it ( and so all the upper keys including PS button,Pad and share buttons wont work). but when i introduce it through legacy controller in Street fighter V it works fine ( except PS and other mentioned buttons). I know that i should first put the switch to Ps4 and then plug it and also i am sure that it isnt locked. when i tested it on Ps3 suddenly all of buttons work just fine even when the switch is in Ps4 mode. i came to conclusion that the stick has stuck in Ps3 mode and the switch cant change it to Ps4. As madcatz is out of business i wonder if anyone here can help me. If anyone can provide me at least with the schematic of the two PCB that were used in that fightstick ( i mean the main PCB and The one that has Ps,Ps3/PS4 switch and also touch pad on it ) that would very much be appreciated. thank you all guys.
