Mayflash Arcade Stick Mod

Hey guys, I'm looking to mod my Mayflash arcade stick, specifically replacing the joystick. All the mods I've seen have used a Sanwa joystick, which is far above my budget. I was wondering if I could use a Happ joystick instead, preferably this one:

Switch-less USB selector for PS3+360 "Imp": Re-Design Underway, Input appreciated.

EDIT: Troubleshooting guide is up: Switch-less USB selector for PS3+360 "Imp": Design Stage
EDIT: Welcome sheet included with each Imp: www.godlikecontrols.com/download/impwelcome.pdf
I like cute names for things, so I'm thinking we'll go for 'Imp' on this one :)

Most PS3+Xbox360 sticks now use a DPDT toggle switch to select which system is to be used. This setup works well, but requires a DPDT switch be purchased, and the case modified so the switch can be installed. I had mentioned previously that it would be possible to use an existing button to select with a small amount of electronics, but figured it'd be too much of a PITA. I said if I can get enough preorders to cover my costs, I would do it, and zombie cpt came back a couple of hours later and said he had it covered. So, SRK has spoken and this baby project is now underway.

I know that a 4066N analog switch chip can be used to select between two pairs of lines for USB just fine, since the UPCB has been doing that for years now. What I needed was a way to have two outputs from a gate, being high-low if an input was high when powered on, and being low-how if the input was low when powered on, and sticking at those output levels no matter what happens. I couldn't figure out how to do it with regular logic gates, so we're back to my old stand-by of a small microcontroller. Checking the prices on Digikey, the cheapest and smallest chip I can find is the 12F510; $1.25 each ordered singly, and $0.78 in quantities of 25 or more. Internal oscillator, pull up's on the inputs if needed, and 512 instruction space; all good stuff and should work awesome.

Here's a sketch of the current idea each square is 0.1" on a side:
imp1.png

The left has a spot for a USB jack to be mounted, so the outgoing USB cable won't have to be cut. The pads will be labelled and you can still solder the USB wires to them (for using the cable from a xbox360 controller, which really are nice cables, or the cable that comes with the madcatz TE or SE stick) but for those who dont want to cut and solder a USB cable, a jack would be nice.

So, here are the areas I'd really like feedback on:
-Mounting holes: It would be pretty silly to not have holes for screwing into the case for a solid mount. On wooden cases like Norris (drool) or SFAC sticks, there's not so much of a need to care where the holes are, because you don't have to line them up with anything. What I'd really like is suggestions on where it should be mounted inside a MadCatz TE or SE stick, so I can get the holes to match up with the screws already present. Give me an idea where it should go, and I'll make sure the holes match.

-Other functionality: The PIC is eight pins. Two are for power, leaving 6 available. I need two to control the 4066 switches, leaving 4. One input to control which system to use; down to 3. A common problem that keeps coming up is people wanting Start+Select=Guide. That's not a problem for the Cthulhu since that's built in, but it gets tricky when dealing with a 360 pad. My thought is this: If you wanted to, you could connect the Opt A and Opt B points to start and select. The Guide point would be connected to the Cthulhu 'Home' point and the Xbox360 Guide button. If the chip thinks you don't have a dedicated guide/home button, then it will press Guide/Home for you if it sees both select and start pressed. It would be optional; if you have a dedicated home button, the chip would know this and never trip Guide/Home. It just gives those without a dedicated Guide/Home button an alternative. Thoughts?
(I know explanations are confusing at times. So, in short:
If you have a dedicated button for Guide/Home, then forget I said anything.
If you don't have a dedicated button for Guide/Home, then this would make Start+Select = Guide/Home if you want.)

-Color: Colored PCB's are cool. How does black with white silkscreening sound? White with black? Green red blue, lotsa options.
-Open source: I'll release the PIC code and full Eagle files so anyone can make as many of these as they like. The design will be too stupid simple not to.

Alright folks, tell me how I can make this awesome.

Good morning everyone! Wanted to throw launch the shop into the Tech Talk Community because why not... every other vendor has. I'll migrate over my SALES threads to here and ask the mods to close them out once I get everything moved over.

** About me and the Shop **

Some of you may know me, some of you may not... I am Jasen and I am a DIY-Aholic. I build Fight Sticks, SuperGuns, Print and Cut Custom Graphics, and Sell buttons, sticks, and tech to fuel my addiction. What started out as a minor hobby as a kid (pulling things apart to see how they worked and getting rocked at Street Fighter II and Samurai Showdown) turned into an obsession. Many things I make such as the Panzer Fight Sticks, SuperGun Cases, and graphics started out as something I needed for a project I was working on. Over the past two years it evolved into a "business", a term I use loosely because I'm not trying to make money... just trying to save it for my random projects and passing it along the best I can to the community. By night I may be an arcade/gaming enthusiast but by day I am a LCDR in the US Navy and drive Submarines for a living. Because of my day job I have been able to learn a lot of crazy stuff that has influenced my designs and projects. Thanks Navy for training me and testing me as a Nuclear Engineer!

I run this by myself so I know the quality of parts, prints, and builds... in my house. America was built from the home, I'm going to try and keep it that way. Plus it saves me money :-D

Panzer Fight Stick Korean Edition

Ok, enough of the touchy-feely stuff. Let's get onto some Tech Talk. I had a customer that really wanted a stick based around the Myoungshin Fanta Stick. It was interesting. His design was ideas were good and I really liked the case when it was done. Fast forward to April 2014 and my vacation to Seoul Korea... I went overboard and bought a crap-whack of Fantas. Also learned that "Crown" isn't the company name... it's actually Crowin. I digress...

I went to work designing a Panzer Fight Stick to house the new stick because it's completely different than everything else on the market. I wanted something new and unique as well as tough and worthy of the Panzer Fight Stick name. This is what I came up with:

- Panzer Fight Stick Korean Edition
- Crowin/Myoungshin Fanta Mounts
- 30mm Buttons Vewlix Layout
- 24mm Buttons Front (Home Start Select)
- Neutrik Interface for USB or RJ45
- Black Sandtex Top and Graphite Sandtex Bottom
- Low Profile Feet
- Digitally Printed Graphics
- PS360+

I am going to do a limited run of these, only 10, and they will be completely built out ready for kicking ass when you receive it. So far, the facebook response has been very good. I don't expect these to last. Price point is being determined due to the limited number I am doing as well as the fact I plan on using GamerFinger buttons in the final product.

Silent JLFs - $69.95 (Harness and Balltops Included
https://jasenscustoms.com/Sanwa-Silent-JLF-Lever-JLF-TPRG-8AYT-SK.html

I was skeptical at the value and the bennies associated with the Silent JLF... until I got one. These are very quiet. I posted up in the SANWA JLF Thread my db findings and it's damn quiet. I think the max room dB was 106 with the standard JLF being clicked around and then 76 with the Silent JLF being clicked around. It wasn't the most scientific test, but it was the best was I could numerically represent the stick. All Sanwa really did was solder the quiet Omron D2RV-G switches to a standard JLF PCB and make the gate a single piece vs. one with a removable gate. It looks like the actuator may be a little larger than stock, but I haven't broken out the calipers to check it yet. Stock JLF gates/restrictors work with the silent stick as well as all of your original balltops and harnesses.

Buttons, Buttons, and more Buttons
https://jasenscustoms.com/Pushbuttons/

I have a stock of them now. I resisted for as long as I possibly could. It just made sense to start carrying a few so those buying Panzer Fight Sticks could include them with their orders. Nothing special or new about these buttons. They are just good OBSF-30s and PS-14-Gs. Ill be adding more as I get them photographed and uploaded. If I don't have it, I can get it or simply haven't added it yet.

Standard JLF - $19.95
https://jasenscustoms.com/Sanwa-JLF-Lever-JLF-TP-8YT.html

Playing nice with others has its benefits. Another shop and I teamed up to get a killer deal on Sanwa JLFs and have been able to bring the price down to $19.95. Same great stick, new lower price. Oh, did I mention it ships for $3.99?

Crossbone Kits - Launch 21 June!
@Phreakazoid‌ did a killer job coming up and implementing a slick pad-hack to use the XBONE with your current or future stick builds. We have been chatting since it's announcement on brining it to JasensCustoms.com and what the best way to implement it was. I have teamed up with @armi0024‌ from ParadiseArcadeShop.com to pool our braincells and release this on day one with a lot of great options!

Non-Analog Arcade Stick
This was the one I competed with at CEO. The gamecube padhack is housed in a qanba q1 I had already owned and I upgraded the parts to sanwa at CEO. The analog version currently lacks a case because the LS-64 is too big to mount in any existing case I have, I have to get a case custom made for it.

Top view - shows button layout. Ignore the button names on the default qanba artwork.
4 orange buttons = A, L, Y, B (from bottom to right)
4 yellow buttons = c-stick buttons (up, down, left, and right)
green button = "shift" button. (See video below)
Spoiler:

3gGxSqI.jpg
image
Demonstration was done via Dolphin emulator because I don't own any nintendo consoles, however the shift button on the arcade stick works the same way on console as it does in Dolphin emulator. Whenever the shift button (green button) is NOT pressed, the joystick is 100% engaged (acting as the left analog stick). Whenever the shift button IS pressed, the joystick is x% engaged. I can I open the stick and adjust the percentage (in every direction) if I'd like but I currently have it set to 40%. I plan to raise it but need to do more testing to find what will be appropriate. The shift button is what allows me to walk/run, and do tilt attacks so it was an integral part of this build since this stick lacks an analog joystick.

If you look to the left of the stick (in the video), you can see a gamecube-PC adapter, this is needed so I can use the stick on the computer since the stick now lacks a usb cable and now natively uses a gamecube cable (since there's a gamecube PCB inside it).
Spoiler:
wBPz0m7.jpg

Due to the gamecube PCB inside, Gummo had to dremel off a piece of the interior structure of the case so the case could close. The piece that was removed served no vital part of the structure of the case, it was just a piece that allowed the qanba q1 to be mounted with table clamps. We covered the hole with black electric tape.

Now for the part that every one wants to see... the guts!
tKTY6un.jpg

I highlighted 3 unique areas of the insides (see spoiler below).
Red = screw terminals which is where the buttons and everything are connected to. This allows solderless removal/addition of buttons since currently not every button is mapped to the stick because I currently lack enough buttons on the stick.
Green = Trigger potentiometer. This is a slider that is normally attached to the gamecube controller's trigger, sliding this allows me to set whatever % I'd like for the light shield button. Currently the stick lacks a light shield button and only has a hard shield button. This will change once I get a new case/plexi with enough button holes.
Blue = 4 potentiometers that allow me to adjust how much % the "shift" button will change the joystick to. Each pot controls one direction of the joystick. You just take a small flathead screw driver and turn them, it's pretty simple. However, they will turn forever so I hooked up the arcade stick to a computer to know how much % I'm getting when I'm turning them.

I also included close-up's of the pcb.

Intro

I know this thread/topic has come up numerous times in the past, but I have done my research into this to make sure this thread isn't anything close to a repost. The thread will be ordered into an easy to read manner, as well as important parts being bolded (if you want a tldr version) and my final question listed at the bottom.

This is a project I would love to start but there are physical limitations I don't know how to get around, which is why I'm creating this thread. In short, I want to create an arcade stick dedicated to playing Smash Bros which doesn't limit me to things normally available on a normal Gamecube controller. This means that a digital joystick is not a possibility.

Two main features I want included in the finished arcade stick are: an analog/49 way joystick and a "lock" button allowing the joystick to also be used as a c-stick.

Parts/Features

Joystick
Movement is done by an analog stick in Smash Bros (walk/run). So the joystick must be either analog or 49-way. Both sticks would serve the same purpose in what is needed to play. The picture below shows an example of how it works by throw distance (how far the stick is engaged).

Goes into great detail on how 49-way joysticks work.

I narrowed my choices down to 3 joysticks: [analog] the seimitsu ls-64 and ultramarc ultrastik 360; [49 way] happ 49-way joystick. My top choice is the seimitsu ls-64 but it apparently is extremely hard to purchase online now.

C-Stick
A feature I would really like to be included is the ability to use the joystick as the C-stick as well. Toodles has already made such a feature in his Cthulhu Multi Console PCB which is described in detail below.
Spoiler:
Toodles wrote: »
5. Smash Bros. Advanced [hold Fierce and Roundhouse when plugging in.]..........'lock' button is for complex C-stick manuevers. It locks the analog stick where its at, and your stick will control the C-stick until you release the lock button. So, to do Peach's floating b-air, jump and hold up on your stick, hold the lock button, and move the stick to the left or right.

Problems

A requirement for this arcade stick, is for it to work on a Gamecube. Every console version of Smash Bros (besides Smash 64) will be playable since the Gamecube controller works on the Wii, and Wii U as well.

Joystick
One problem I have is the incompatibility of the joysticks themselves. The Ultramarc Ultrastik 360 only works on PC, and the Happ 49-way joystick was originally used in certain arcade games:
Spoiler:
Global VR Madden Football, Midway NBA Showtime, Williams Blitz, Blitz 99 and Gauntlet
so I'm unsure if it's possible to be used. This leaves my first choice of available joysticks left, the Seimitsu LS-64. Like I said earlier, it's extremely hard to find being sold online. So if anybody is able to find one being sold, I'd love to be given a link.

PCB
My first choice was using Toodle's Cthulhu Multi-Console PCB (since it has a Smash Bros feature allowing use of the "lock" C-stick button), but this PCB doesn't allow analog input from the joystick, nor do the majority of fighting game multi-console PCB's either. A solution to this, would be Toodle's patching the Cthulhu PCB to allow analog input; but I'm not sure if this is possible. I will be emailing him (he hasn't logged on SRK in 2 years) shortly after making this thread asking him about this.

My second choice was padhacking a Gamecube PCB but using this option wouldn't allow me make use of the "lock" C-stick button. The C-stick is an important part of playing Smash Bros, so I wouldn't want to lose this feature. It would be possible for my to add 4 extra buttons mapped to the C-stick for each cardinal (up, down, left, right) direction; but I wouldn't enjoy this layout.

Final Thoughts and Questions

Smash is essentially a 4 button game. X/Y - Jump, L/R - Shield, A - Attack, and B - Shield.
Z is simply used as a shortcut of L/R + A so it isn't needed as a button, and the Dpad (Dpad Down would be mapped for character specific uses) is used as a taunt (which serves uses in competitive play).
Spoiler:
ex: Kirby removing a character hat after inhaling an opponent; ex: Footstool (jump on top of somebody's head) which was a mechanic added in Brawl and Smash 4
I believe a 6 button layout (I prefer Vewlix) should be used, with the hand resting "KOF" style on the main 4 buttons, and the bottom 2 buttons being "Dpad" and "Lock". See the picture below.
Spoiler:
Ignore the red scratch, I just removed the %'s I had written for the joystick's throw distances.
I2vBm3s.png

Ignore the different button layout, this picture just shows a possibility of extra buttons used for the C-stick if the "lock" button isn't a possibility.
CxCrzK8.png

What are your guys' thoughts on how I can get an analog joystick working? And/or how can I get the C-stick "lock" button working if I padhacked a Gamecube controller?

Why Make this?
Spoiler:
This is Tech Talk where projects like these are seen as cool! I've always wanted to play Smash Bros on a stick, but due to the limitations of an arcade stick using digital parts; it's simply not viable. I want to get around this barrier since I actually believe an arcade stick (with an analog joystick of course) would be a superior way of playing the game over the standard Gamecube controller. The joystick allows a high amount of precision over your movement, tilts/smashes, and aerials compared to a Gamecube controller. The arcade buttons also make advanced techniques extremely easy (I played PC netplay on a digital arcade stick to test) compared to the un-ergonomic Gamecube controller (your hand has to move all over the Gamecube controller compared to resting in one spot on an arcade stick).

The "wow" factor of playing Smash Bros on an arcade stick is worth it alone to me, but I also want to open up the door for other people who want to play Smash Bros on a stick. Many people have been interested in doing this project but nobody has actually done it yet, I would like to lay the foundation and give directions for other people to follow.

I bought a Hori Fighting Stick VX a few months back. I tried tinkering with it to get it work on my computer, but no luck, since there were no drivers. But now, I guess there's an official driver for it. When I plugged it into my computer, it installed the appropriate driver and everything seemed to be fine. The inputs show up fine on the Windows controller test. But none of the programs seem to recognize it. I've tried using X360ce and Xpadder, but neither of them worked. Is there some sort of fix for this?

The joystick on my VS stick has been messing up recently. I was thinking about replacing it and the buttons at the same time, but the problem is that I've never opened up a stick before.

All the videos I find online are for other sticks, (not sure if they're just all the same or...?) and I can't find one for the specific stick I'm using.

Anyone have any info or tutorials for this? The joystick in particular.

Hi,

I have a Hori fighter stick for PS3 and it is completely disassembled. I have no idea how to put it back together, where can I go to have it repaired / customized?

I really enjoy playing Wii-Punchout on my Treadmill it's fun exercise but I've peaked out on it. One of my hobbies is I like making motion/interactive peripherals I do a lot of Kinect/VR experiments with mixed results, I project railshooters on the wall and play with a light gun one day I want my own holodeck but that's going to have to wait awhile.

So I'm undertaking a new build, it's not original but an old mainstay of the arcade.

10158-Punch_Mania_cabinet.jpg

I intend to build a similar peripheral to a Punchmania cabinet but I want to modify an exercise grade kick boxing stand.

kicking.png

So far the working idea is modify existing equipment and for the inputs I am thinking a generic Dance Dance (DDR) pad would do the trick but I've never gutted one and I don't know want to expect inside other than it can obviously take the hit and register the input. I've also considered Guitar Hero drums I was also wondering if anyone knew the potential of finding Punchmania replacement parts to get the pads.

Nutshell = Anyone have any better ideas/feedback of how to rig up the inputs before I start ordering stuff?

(I will be emulating on PC for Glovepie and flexibility so I am not format locked)

Hey everyone, new to this site, and haven't written on a forum since the early 2000's (old man) but here we go. I have come back to glorious FGC after almost a decade of FPS (mostly COD) and I'm stepping into the world of all fighters instead of just Tekken. This hori is my first venture into fight sticks because I grew up playing pad, and decided with USFIV and SFV to step up to Fight Sticks.
After Mad Catz being constantly sold out, I did plenty of research on the Hori kai and love it (the VLX will be a christmas present to myself once i move to Denver) but was worried about the Kuro buttons. (felt like the buttons stuck a little) so looked on enough forums and found everything I need including finding about ART and his plexiglass. But instead of just doing a simple button swap, I'm in the process of doing a theme based fightstick.
I'm a huge fan of all combat sports and big fan on MMA so all my fightsticks will be themed around MMA and from what I've seen online Ill be the first to do it. Anyway Ill go down the list of new parts, sorry I didnt take pics of the dis-assembly, kinda was too afraid my giant hands would break those small connectors. This fightstick will be dedicated to one of my favorite fighters, Nick Diaz. The next one I plan to make (hopefully with a TE2) will be based around the PRIDE FC organization. Anyway heres the list and pics.

1. Sanwa JLF-CD Translucent Yellow Shaft and matching Dustwasher
2. The New Sanwa LB30NCW Battop (clear)
3. One Sanwa OBSC 24mm Translucent Button (Green)
4. Six Sanwa OBSC 30mm Translucent Buttons (Clear)
5. Two Sanwa OBSC 30mm Translucent Buttons (Red)

postimg.org/image/l422crbon/

this is a work in progress and I plan to add a Plexi and add a photo of Nick, these are the two im considering. I wish I could use older photos from his fights in Pride but they won't be in high quality.

postimg.org/image/44fporigx/

postimg.org/image/bxprjcjfz/

Now I did my research and the only Kai custom forums that are up are on NeoGaf so I would appreciate if the mods keep this one open. And hopefully I get to see everyone's custom Kai's and plans for their Kai's. Thanks for reading my rambling and can't wait to see everyone's ideas

Hi,

Anyone with a Venom fight stick want to try out this artwork.

I've tweaked the template a little what I received from Venom as the size was slightly off.
seems to be Xiondash's template I was sent. Thank you to Xiondash.

There are two versions. The ones labelled Circles have circles for the stick lights at the top. This makes it much easier to cut out.
Tip: When cutting out the circles, pop them using a sharp tool then use sandpaper on the reverse side to cleanly remove the pierced paper.

Just bought parts for a new arcade stick.Any suggestions for a case?

Hey there, Im new here. Ive been playing fighting games like arcana heart 3, Street fighter 4 and melty blood for a while. I was wondering a bit, Where I could buy parts for making an arcade stick? So I did my research for a while.I got my parts from focusattack and everything has been going good. But now Im realy wondering about it:"What case should I get?". Ive seen many people using TEK cases, Which seem good, Especially if you add some weight slots to it. Ive researched a bit online, And found fightstick asia, Who sell 3 different kind of cases: They sell "small abs" arcade stick cases, Which seem to be somekind of a TE knockoff, At a good quality. They have "long abs" arcade stick cases, Which seems to look like the hori vlx case, And they also sell hitbox cases which look cool(not what I need in my case). On the one hand, A TEK case seems like a better option, But to be honest, I dont realy know. I saw a old review of those fight stick asia-branded cases, and they seem to come with everything needed: A huge case for a stick, Even with a huge cable compartment, With enough place to put almost everything inside this case. The question is, What should I get? If you have any good sellers that sell well-built cases, It would be very nice if anyone could send me some links.
My reason for wondering about the TEK cases is that I would prefer a case with place for cable compartment(if exists, At worst case Ill mod the case so itl work out somehow).
If people wonder, Every kind of case would be expensive to me, So even if its a bit more expensive, send it. I live in israel and even when I went to see how much a TEK case would cost, Shipping right to here is realy overpriced. So yeah, one way or another, I may even pay between 100-150 bucks for a case including shipping, So I dont realy care anymore how much Ill pay.go nuts.(And nope , No one sells here arcades sticks at all, Checked every gaming store here)

Thanks in advance, Barak.

— No uninstalling the driver doesn't work.

Hey shoryuken Forums!
I've been lurking the forums, and the site for years now, and it's shitty that my first post has to be a request, but I need help.
So I just got my PS360+, and wanted to test if everything works, but whenever I plug it into my computer Windows tells me "USB device not recognized", and when that message is gone "Unknown USB device installed". I have uninstalled that "Unknown device" quite often, but the same error persists. I have also tried using the force PS3, and force Xbox 360 Mode, but I still get the same issue. Do I uninstall the wrong device? This one pops up every time I plug it in: http://puu.sh/lRKEq/abb8531d95.jpg
Every time I plug it in, two LEDs flash. the P1/D1 LED, and the P2/D2 LED (see video if you don't understand)

The Board does however work with my Playstation 3. I haven't tested an Xbox 360 because I don't own one, but I'm sure it'll work there just fine as well.

I recorded a video to make the whole situation a bit more clear to you all. Here is a link: image

Thanks for taking the time to help me.

I use my Mad Catz SFXT V.S. without the pointy little feet at the bottom of the case, since I tend to play on my lap. It's more comfortable than with the feet on, but the stick is a tiny bit less stable since the feet aren't digging into my legs any more. Can anyone recommend a cheap material I could stick to the bottom of the case like on the new Mad Catz TE2s to make the surface more grippy?

Adding Dual-Gen PCBs to Dual-Gen Sticks?

Scenario 1: Hori V4/5/Kai PS4-PS3 toggle switch + dualmod with PDP MKX xbone/360. Where/how would I solder the PDP to the toggle on the V4 Kai? I don't care if it ends up PS4+x360 / PS3+xbone for whatever reason. I just want to use the built-in toggle from the Hori stick. Would this be any different on a VLX for that matter?

Scenario 2: I want to padhack/dual Hori FC4 + PDP MKX, same-ish thing, but swap out PCB from a Madcatz VS. Ideally, I would like to add the Gen toggle to the LS/RS.

Both setups will use Toodles' IMP v2. I'm assuming solder high+high/low+low together. Is there anything else I'd have to worry about (adding a transistor, etc)? And for the VS, would I go H+H -> LS ...for example?

Thanks!

Qanba Q4 stick help

Evening SRK,

I am having some trouble with a part on my white/red Q4 stick. After spending some time with a bat stick in place of my red ball stick, I wished to change it back. After doing so, I noticed I seemed to wear out the metal ring at the inner end of the joystick, so after playing for a bit, it would somehow slip off and the stick would not remain straight anymore. Does anyone know the part, and/or where I can get another one? I was told by a friend that I could get it at a hardware store, but I am not aware of the part name and would like to know it when i bring the ring to the store to see if they might have what I need.
