Hi! i bought this arcade stick 2 years ago with my ps3 and it was bad experience the stick it self had problems with directions like if i'm playing king of fighters it often do upward jump instead of up-right or up-left jump, in side scrolling games like metal slug it often crouch when i try to move right or left, i didn't find a way to fix it and wasn't able to return it because it was hard to explains the problem... so i sucked it up and left it to rot for all this time but now i feel like playing some fighting games and was thinking if there's a way to fix it? im very newb to this and don't know where to look and don't want to buy another stick if possible because this one was expensive for me and i didn't use it at all

How to check your Sanwa sticks for "Chatter" (Intermittent inputs)

Thought I'd post this here because testing for bad microswitches on consoles is not easy to do, as a lot of issues that can be detected on PC may not always appear on a movement test on consoles or in game input test settings. Many people may have flaky microswitches (Omron, Hori/Cherry) without it being obvious. Here's how to test your sticks!

1) Download Joytokey from http://joytokey.net/en/
Install it and set the processing speed to X16 (this is VERY Important, otherwise input chatter of low ms (like 4-8ms) won't be picked up.
Bind your sticks to keyboard inputs (like WASD).

2) Download Elite Keyboards Switchhitter from https://elitekeyboards.com/switchhitter.php
Set the chatter threshold in the settings to 8ms (a good setting since this matches the default USB polling rate of 125hz).

Run both, then carefully move your sticks to where the microswitch actives with a click, then very slowly move it to the throw and then very slowly back to disengage. Do this for all directions and be thorough.
A good microswitch should have no chatter and should have a press/release time exactly as you engaged the microswitch.

If you have a flaky microswitch and are getting chatter, you don't need to replace the TP-MA assembly or solder a new switch on. 90% of all switch problems can be fixed with Deoxit D5 (something everyone should have).
Just open the switch housing (Don't lose the red plunger part!), spray deoxit on the contact points that snap together on switch activation (if necessary, use a lint free/microfiber cloth or a non abrasive tool to wipe it on the contacts to clean it) and then reassemble the switch.

https://www.amazon.com/Hosa-D5S-6-DeoxIT-Contact-Cleaner/dp/B00006LVEU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1491600371&sr=8-1&keywords=deoxit+D5

Your switch should now be good as new and should last many months or longer without flaking out again.
Now you won't have to blame your hardware for missed executions :)

Microsoft project 2007 and 2010

Hi, there is a problem with Project 2010.
Background
User recently had Microsoft Project 2010 installed (though standard Office 2007 build).
Issue
- User cannot open MS Project 2003 .MPP file.
- Error message when file double-clicked: "C:/<filepath>/<file>.mpp is not a valid Win32 application".
Unsuccessful Fix Efforts
- Changing file associations does not fix by GUI or cmdline, .MPP has no file associations with it.
- "2010 Microsoft Office component" displayed instead of Microsoft Project 2010 in the 'Open With' dialog; browsing to find the "WINPROJ.EXE" executable in "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12" folder does not work either.

What arcade sticks do Kazunoko and Nemo use? Best arcade stick on the market rn post-MCZ? Panthera?

Hey guys I'm in the market for a new arcade stick rn. I currently own a MCZ TE and TE2+but am looking to add a new stick to the collection. Two of my favorite players for SFV (and SF4) are Kazunoko and Nemo. Idk what Nemo uses but I know it looks like Kaz has always used the Hori RAP (is he using the V now? Or that uber expensive Vewlix one? Can't get a good look). Was wondering if that's what he uses and if he's kept the Hayabusa parts or swapped out for Sanwa.

Also alternatively I was thinking about picking up a Razer Panthera but after Capcom Cup 2-3 years ago (Momochi's Atrox died on him mid match grand finals) I've been skeptical about going Razer but I'm a big fan of Infiltration and I know he uses one plus it comes standard with Sanwa parts which I like.

As a whole what are some of the best sticks out on the market rn with the least amount of lag?

Controller from Makestick.com not shipping, any experiences?

Hello,
i ordered a IST DIVA CON from Makestick.com. I paid over Paypal and get no responses from them, not
even an order transmitted mail or something.
I mailed two of their mail-adresses but no response. Seems like a slow shop, or eventually a scam?
Someone got any experiences with that shop?
I just want a Hastune Miku Controller :(

Convert HRAP4 to Hitbox

Hi.
So I want to convert my HRAP4 to a Hitbox. My biggest problem is where to get the metal plate and plexi with that layout.
I don't know if it's possible to just have a plexi put on the HRAP4 without the metal plate, that would be cheaper and easier to get, just someone that works with plastic.
Thanks.

General Troubleshooting & Repair Guide

Disclaimer:
The good people of SRK Tech Talk, The whole of the Fighting Game Community, other DIY and support sites and myself cannot and will not take responsibility how you carry out implement your own repairs and modifications. Ultimately the end users hold responsibility for how they impend their own repairs (mainly you). If at any time you feel the task is over your head, please ask for assistance or even for another modder/builder to take over repairs for you.

Introduction:
Welcome to SRK Tech Talk, here we are going to teach you the principals and fundamentals of troubleshooting. Troubleshooting is more of a mental process and less of following a check list or chart or diagram. In order to troubleshoot effectively you first must understand how stuff works or as we pros call it the theory of operation. Once you understand how game controllers work, the rest of the troubleshooting process will fall in line.

Basic Electrical theory:
To save time and space, I skip the actual basics and provide some external links.
For those who understand electricity you can skip to the next section

High school level Electrical theory (math skills required)
http://wiki.4hv.org/index.php/Basic_electrical_theory

Basic game controller theory of operation:
Now that we understand basic electrical theory, we can get into the Theory of Operation on how game controllers work. This theory doesn’t change fort any system’s brand or type of controller. This applies to game pads and arcade sticks as well as it applies to Human interface devices.
All controllers are the same in their basic operation. That includes wired and wireless controllers, arcade sticks, game pads, dance pads, light guns and so on.
There are two basic inputs, DIGITAL and ANALOG.

DIGITAL operates on an on/off state, and only reports if a button is pressed or a joystick or directional pad (d-pad) is pushed.

Example of Digital input devices.
On/Off Switches, Arcade Push Buttons, gamepad buttons Joysticks, radial encoders, d-pad, keyboard keys

ANALOG reports signals differently, they constantly reporting back the usage or movement of said device (example: even if your analog thumb stick is in a neutral position). It is the strength of the signal that determines its status. When you move an analog input the signal gets stronger or weaker depending on where or how you move your analog input.
Example of Analog input devices
Volume turn knobs (like on older TVs and Radios), analog thumb sticks, analog buttons, analog trigger/shoulder buttons, turn knobs (like on Pong or similar games), sensors, computer mouse trackball.

Now not all Controllers report back there usage the same way
Neo Geo controllers, Atari Controllers and a few others are built simply, and each button as a signal line that goes directly to the main system. The benefit you have ZERO input lag, the downside is every button and input has to have a signal line, if the controller is not common ground every digital input needs two wires, 3 or more for each analog input.
Now many controllers have an encoder or signal processor or some other kind of circuit that processes the input into binary information your game system can use. Usually this encoder is mounted or soldered to a PCB or Printed Circuit board. These encoders can go from quite simple setups such as a NES game pad that uses a shift register for reporting back 8-bit values for each input pressed. To an encoder that is much more complex such as wireless Bluetooth. It be the Encoder job to turn all your inputs into meaningful signals that goes along your controller cable or wirelessly for wireless controllers.

Okay your Stick do not work as it should, what will you do?

Step 1: First off calm down and approach the issue rationally. Being angry and flustered helps no one.

Step 2: Identify the issue. What is wrong with your stick? Not responding, broken button, direction on the joystick not registering?

Step 2B: Is your stick NEW or OLD. If you have a new retail/ commercial stick this would be the time to take advantage of the manufacturer's Warranty. If this is a Custom stick please contact your stick builder. Please note individual custom stick builders (usually) do not offer warranties and have no obligation to help, especially if you get angry with them. Please give stick builders a few days (approx 7 days) to contact you to sort the issue out.

Step 3: This is if you are repairing the stick your self, once you identify the issue you need to go and trouble shoot the problem.

Step 4: Repair

Step 5: Recover. This includes reasembily and any finishing touches. If you working on a Computer you be uninstalling programs and apps you installed to make a fix (like mal-ware removal tools, cleaner apps ect).

Also All repairs can be broken down in 4 steps so, this applies to anything including PCs, Cars, Medicine, air craft ect...

1. Diagnose the device
2. Assets the problem
3. Repair
4. Recover

Tools Needed:
 • Screw drivers Both Phillips and flat head, depending on the stick you need multiple sizes.
 • The correct bit to open the top and/or bottom panels of your stick, this might include hex keys or some security bit to loosen these screws.
 • Paper and Pencil, you will be taking notes
 • Multi-meter or continuity tester. Preferably a Multi-meter, although for some test a continuity tester works too.
 • Needle nose pliers
 • Wire cutters, Wire Strippers and Crimpers. These can be separate tools or a all-in-one tool
 • A Digital camera. To take images of your stick, use this prior to disassembly.
 • Soldering iron, solder and soldering accessories.
 • Electric tape (not masking tape, gift wrap tape or duct tape) or shrink wrap tubing.
List of known malfunctions and possible causes.

Non working Arcade stick
 • Is the stick plunged into your game system and the game system turned on?
 • Is your stick set to the correct player? Player 1, Player 2 and so on.
 • Is the stick the correct controller for that system? For Dual Mods is the stick set to the correct mode? This applies to Automatic, Button presses mode changes as well as DPDT switch Dual-Mods.
 • Are you using your Arcade Stick with a PC? What Chip set you have on your mother board? Are the Drivers Installed?
 • The controller cable is damage or disconnected (on most modern sticks this is a USB cable)
 • The Printed Circuit board is disconnected or damaged.
Non working push buttons.
 • With the stick plugged into the CORRECT system and the system is on?
 • Is your stick set to the correct player? Player 1, Player 2 and so on.
 • is the wires to the push button/ push button micro switch are connected properly to the wiring and that wiring to the PCB?
 • Remove the push button, using the 2 exposed wire ends or quick disconnects, will the button signal respond when the 2 wire ends touch?
 • Does the button show Continuity when the button is pushed?
 • Comparing to a working push button do you see a High or Low change in the voltage on that button's line?
Non-Working Joystick.
 • With the stick plugged into the CORRECT system and the system is on?
 • Is your stick set to the correct player? Player 1, Player 2 and so on.
 • Is the stick selector set to "LS", "DP" or "RS", Set it to the correct setting, usually this is DP on consoles.
 • Is each of the four cardinal directions, Up, down , left and Right responds?
 • Do the four corner directions respond?
 • If you have a 4/8 way gate (usually square) is the gate set to 4 way or 8 way play.
 • Do you have a 2 way gate?
 • Is your wiring harness is plugged in correctly and in the correct orientation. its common for the stock wire harness for some sticks (specially the TE) to be installed upside down.
 • Does the Microswitches show continuity?
 • is the wires/ wire harness to the joystick/ joystick micro switches are connected properly
 • Is the wires/ wire harness is connected to the correct way? No backwards wire harnesses or wires connected to the wrong switch?

Darksakul, when people say that their Directionals lag, it is usually because LS.
When people say the Joystick one day just die, it is usually RS.

guide for users having trouble with The PS3 TE/SE and there PC's

tips
also if you run into problems try disconnecting other usb devices and try plug the stick in to the actual usb port.

if using a hub try plugging it in directly onto your computer

Note:
please play around with your usb connections do not plug the TE into any sort of hub.

having discovered not all chipsets support the ps3 TE/Se this is what you can do if your PS3 TE/SE does not work.

the PS3 TE is only compatible with UHCI (Universal Host Controller Interface), which is an Intel originated proprietary standard and far from universal. Any knowledgeable and experienced engineer developing a USB device knows and fully understands the differences between the various USB standards:

UHCI - USB 1.1 Proprietary Intel Standard
OHCI - USB 1.1 Open Standard
EHCI - USB 2.0 Open Standard

inorder to use you have to have a UHCI (Universal Host Controller Interface), i can personally recommend via chipsets as this was my solution and all that has bought pci cards with the via chipset have reported that it works.

ok guys,

i bought 2 pci cards because my nvidia chipset on my motherboard , was not registering button presses, or joystick movement, however it sees the stick.

pci card 1, belkin 4 5 port pci, nec chip on the board (presumming its a nec chipset), same as before sees the stick does not register.
21h3jb94BKL._SL500_AA200_.jpg

Pci card 2, cheap brand (maxvalue), via chip on the board (presumming its a via chipset), sees the stick and yes the buttons work ok.
41yR9j5gMXL._SS500_.jpg

so i have got it working at last and yes the problem lays within what chipset you are trying to plug the stick into, nvidia is not working from what users have posted before, i can say that the belkin nec chip PCI usb card is also not working, and possibly ati chipsets also.

this is the pci card that is working for me
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Max-Value-Port-Card-Only/dp/B000TV7GFC/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top
and it is cheap

unlucky for me i boght a more exspensive brand and it didnt work
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Belkin-USB-Hi-Speed-5-Port-Card/dp/B000K7UN82/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

please also note, that the stick while working does not like a USB hub i have and needs to be plugged into the socket directly,as it dont register inputs through the hub i have.

Good luck guys
updated to cut alot of the confusion here is the solution

also works with SFIV for pc, no need to configure keys everything is mapped just fine.

tip for all look at the via chipset, make sure this chip is on what ever usb device you purchase

Fixing New and broken TE2+ [Help needed]

Guys, if anyone has had the same problem please I could really use some help.

Last weekend I got back from a trip to the US. I got a TE2+ from amazon.com and brought it back with me to Chile.

The thing is as soon as I connected it to the PS4 I noticed something was off. The buttons: X, square, triangle and R1 are not working. I reconnected it a few times but it didn't work.

I opened hood of the stick and reconnected the cables to the buttons, again nothing.
I moved the pin connector from the buttons and square, triangle and R1 worked when the connector got to some angle, but as soon as I released it, the stopped working again.

The X button never worked.

I seriously do not know what could be wrong, this is a brand new arcade stick.

If some of you got any idea please let me know.

I'll leave an image of the pin connector I was talking about earlier. Thanks a lot

Windy Gamings Project: Fierce Fightstick.

$

Some of you guys have bought my supergun. I built it for the general arcade enthusiast. What ended up happening was it ended up more in the hands of fighting game players. The pinout I used wasn't cross compatible with some of the stuff you guys use (and I am working on something for that as well). The next step for me was custom controls. I wanted everything to be high end on this thing.

Well, this is the next part of our line. Project Fierce is a fightsick that has both DB15 ports (for my supergun and neo geo) as well as neutrik usb connector running into a brook universal. A small custom pcb inside runs the db15 and controls the tournament lockout switch.

zrTH03t.jpg

It has a 15 3/4" (400mm) custom steel enclosure that has been powder coated matte black. The enclosure is fabricated and painted local, right here in Chicago. 10" top to bottom. Designed with the lap player in mind, but has rubber feet so it wont slide everywhere if you are playing on a table.

ETG0LLX.jpg

The back panel has the Neutrik USB connector, the Tournament lockout switch, and the DB15 connector.

All those buttons on top have a purpose too:

b9iiwVh.jpg

I'm finding a lot of big sticks have those extra buttons tucked away on the back/sides of their enclosures and are hard to reach or are hard to use effectively when you want them. This puts everything within a hands reach of the player. There is ample room for your wrists to rest as well during play allowing for comfortable and varying grips and hand positions.

The stick makes its live playable debut at Midwest Gaming Classic this weekend. I'll be doing a live stream with a local fgc and this thing as well next week. After that they will be made available. It adheres to EVO rules and is tournament legal.

What do you guys think?

Brook Universal PCB + MC Cthulhu PCB in one Joystick Case?

Hello everyone, quick question. I've had a Brook Universal joystick I had made awhile back (still working perfectly), and I'd like to now if it's possible to add a MC Cthulhu PCB to the same joystick (without having to run another set of wires to each button and joystick).

Also would like to replace the USB Neutrik Pass-through I have in it with a RJ-45 Neutrik and then have everything go through the MC Cthulhu and then I can have multiple RJ-45 to Game Console cables (USB to RJ45, SNES to RJ45, Dreamcast to RJ45, etc...).

Is this possible?

The Link: The Quick-Disconnect JLF Shaft!

0523112312a-300x225.jpg

The Link is a new JLF shaft design that is purposed to allow easy storage for all kinds of players. The casual players looking to save a little space, and for traveling tournament players who need every inch when cramming into a full car.

The new design is a two piece steel construction. When in place, the Link is identical in height, allowing for you to drop it right into your current arcade stick that has a Sanwa JLF and feel no difference. The diameter of the center collar is perfect size so that you can keep your current dust washer, however the shaft cover will have to go!
0523112311a-300x225.jpg

Compared to the original shaft, the Link is nearly identical. The few base changes are the collar locking/unlocking mechanic and the hollow construction to cut down on any added weight, as well as allow for future mods such as LEDs.
0523112301.jpg
0523112301a-300x225.jpg
0523112302-300x225.jpg
Another key difference is in how the top is changed out. In the old design you had to utilize the flat head screwdriver slot to get ample torque to tighten the top enough not to loosen. In the new design, the center of the top section has been keyed for a 3mm hex bit, allowing for a more streamlined approach. This is the same size required to take the top panel off of a TE, which makes install that much easier.
0523112311-300x225.jpg
0523112309.jpg

Here's a quick overview I've done, please excuse the horrible quality... video stuff isn't my thing these days.

Extra Install Notes:

1. If you're installing it into a Madcatz TE or one that has the second dust washer that lies on top of the pivot bushing, REMOVE THAT INNER DUST WASHER.

They (and some others) have 2 in the stick, one on the control panel (which is fine) and an inner one that rests underneath the control panel, right over the pivot bushing. That inner one will cause problems, both in coupling the pieces together and connection, remove it and you'll save yourself headache.

Sticks to note that may have the inner (under the control panel) dust washer that must be removed:
 • Madcatz TE/SE

2.Custom plexi dustwashers may have an adverse affect. If you find it's popping out during play and you have a custom dust washer. Remove said dustwasher and test the compared performance, you should see an improvement. A workaround to this is to put a counter-sink into the inner-diameter of that dustwasher, as it will alleviate problematic pressure on the collar of the Link from that hard angle.

FAQ
JLF Only?

If this takes off, and there's enough interest, the "Link technology" so-to-speak, can be ported to any style shaft out there. Get interest in the current Link JLF and you can probably expect another type.
How do I install a it?

If you're completely in unfamiliar territory, I suggest hitting up Youtube with just a "JLF Install" search string to cover your bases. It's an extremely simple swap, with minor tools required, however Vicko has done a fantastic job overviewing how to install it into his HRAP and TE-S.

Will it come apart without engaging the collar ever?

In short, yes it can, but only if you exert upward force that's unnatural to standard play. There is a yield strength, it hasn't been exact weight tested yet, but it won't come apart unless you're aiming to make it happen. It will not, and I repeat, NOT come apart during normal play if you do not touch the collar, that is a guarantee.

This is something I'm looking into and perhaps in future runs this performance will improve, but for now I HIGHLY recommend against lifting up the stick by your ball/bat top.
What do I do about the hole left after it's been disconnected?

It depends on the user's preference, but a 24mm button cap works just fine if you have something with a diameter that works for it. A TE, for example has a hole that works, an HRAP doesn't. Just do a quick measurement, but if you do definitely snap the tabs off... that'd be such a bitch to remove if you don't, lol. The Link is made of 416 Stainless Steel, it is magnetic so you can get creative... or just cover it with painters tape during travel.

Below is a picture of someone not only showing off a hitbox/standard style hybrid stick, but also the use of a plug to cover the hole when it's not required.

Otherwise, you can get a cap I did a quick design for here.. it locks to the base piece, and ignores the hole size. The only catch is it sits a little taller so that you can put the dust cover underneath and be as thick as the custom plexi ones, so if you don't have one it wobbles slightly.

Feel free to download the design and edit it to your liking if you have the means to do it.

I got it and put it together, but it looks like the collar piece doesn't go all the way back down when locked together.

This is normal behavior, future iterations may behave slightly different but for now this is OK.

*Update to the above picture/description

New adjustments have removed much of the space shown above, and as such has also increased the linking strength, below is a comparison of the old vs. new, you will see a big difference in how far the collar goes down.

im wondering if it would be possible for me to take a button on a fightstick, and instead of using my finger to press it, somehow find a way for me to be able to press it with my foot to free up my hands a bit more and help me with some really cool tech, anyone think this is possible or any ideas how to do it?

How much does your arcade stick lag? Arcade stick input lag testing & results thread

Hey guys, I wanted to share something I've been working on for the past half year or so. I've performed input lag tests for a large number of PS3, and XBox 360 sticks/PCBs and figured that I should post up what I've got done before these consoles become obsolete, lol. I'm now working on testing PS4 sticks.

All of the information on the tests can be found on my website including the methodology used, controls in place, and support for my testing method.
http://www.teyah.net/sticklag/overview.html

The results can be found here:
http://www.teyah.net/sticklag/results.html

And finally, the raw testing data can be viewed & downloaded from here:
http://www.teyah.net/sticklag/rawdata.html

Sticks/PCBs tested as of last update:
PS4: 17
PS3: 43
360: 22

Here are some quick results charts I made up for quick reference:

PS4 results:
PS4%20Arcade%20stick%20lag%20results

PS3 results:
PS3%20Arcade%20stick%20lag%20results

XBox 360 results:
360%20Arcade%20stick%20lag%20results

I'll be updating it as our group comes across more sticks. The PS3 results were certainly interesting, I didn't expect the unlicensed PCBs to have such a huge advantage over licensed PS3 sticks. Anyway, hope this helps out those of you who consider input lag to be an important factor in choosing which stick to use.

So I just ordered cherry microswitches and thought I would put them into my JLW. JLW micro's are levered. So I thought I would take out the levers in the JLW micro's and put them into the cherry micro's. The levers however don't fit. How are people putting levered cherry micro's into JLW's?
